Western Ghats is one of the world’s 34 bio-diversity hot spot.
While considering the abundance of wildlife and the adorable beauty of nature. This is also popularly revered as ‘Nature’s own abode. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a rich treasure of 1408 species of flowering plants which includes 67 species of orchids. The natural forest is a rich treasure of medicinal plants.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary at a height of over 3403 feet above sea level , this sanctuary is endowed with the rare species of wildlife that includes the Royal Bengal Tiger, Lion Tailed Macaque, Mouse Deer, Nilgiri Thar, Nilgiri Marten, Great Indian Hornbill, Peninsular Bay Owl, King Cobra, Cane Turtle, and others.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is not an isolated sanctuary. It is the focal point of an extensive network of protected areas of more than 4000 sq. km.
The continuity of the forest makes Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary a sure heaven for elephants with ample corridor for movement, fodder, and water. The regular presence of these mega mammals with good proportion of tuskers prompts one to believe that this is “VALLEY OF THE ELEPHANTS.”
